Job Description (Project Scientist)

National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS) situated at Thiruvananthapuram is an autonomous research centre functioning under the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Government of India. NCESS invites applications for the post of Field Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, Project Associate – I/II and Project Scientist I/II on contract basis, initially for a period of one year as per the details provided below:

          3.          Field Assistant          1Essential: 3-years Diploma in Civil Engineering OR Graduate Degree in Geology / Geophysics / Environmental Science / Civil Engineering from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Experience in conducting field experiments on soil and water.Experience       in       handling       /       operating hydrological / geophysical instruments.
        4.        Field Assistant        1Essential: Graduate degree in Geology from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: M.Sc. Geology / Marine Geology from recognized University / Institute with at least 60% marks.Knowledge in geological field survey / geological mapping / hydrogeological modelling using remote    sensing,    GIS    techniques    and   other hydrogeochemical models.
   
          5.          Field Assistant          2Essential: 3-years Diploma in Instrumentation / Instrument Technology / Electronics / equivalent from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: One-year experience in marine / coastal data collection, deployment of marine instruments, shoreline survey, beach profiling, laboratory analyses of sediment samples, downloading data from marine instruments.Experience in GPS and data processing.
          6.          Laboratory Assistant          1Essential: 3-years Diploma in Civil Engineering OR Graduate Degree in Geology / Geophysics / Environmental Science / Civil Engineering from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Experience in conducting field / laboratory experiments on soil and water.Experience       in       handling       /       operating hydrological / geophysical instruments.
        7.      Laboratory Assistant        1Essential: Graduate degree in Chemistry / Environmental Sciences from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Experience in environmental sample collection and laboratory analysis.Experience      in      using      modern     analytical instruments.
      8.      Laboratory Assistant      1Essential: Graduate degree in Marine Geology / Geology / Environmental Science / Computer Science from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Working experience in Remote Sensing and GIS software (ERDAS, Arc GIS).
      9.    Project Associate-I      1Essential: Master’s degree in Geology / Earth Science / equivalent from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Experience in field geology, petrology and sample preparation for geochemical studies.

      12.      Project Associate-I      1Essential: Master’s degree in Marine Geology / Geology / Environmental Science from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Experience in sedimentological / geochemical lab work.
                13.              Project Associate-II                1Essential: Master’s degree in Physics OR M.Sc. / M. Tech. / M.Sc. Tech. in Geophysics from a recognized University / Institute. Two years of experience high energy particle physics / forward and inverse geophysical modelling or subsurface imaging using any geophysical technique.   Desirable: Knowledge      in      applied      geophysics      and programming skills in MATLAB / Python.Awareness of developments in the field of applied mathematics and computer science, e.g., from the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence.
14.Project Associate-II1Essential: Master’s degree in Geology / Applied Geology / Opto-electronics / Physics from a recognized University / Institute.Two years of experience in the relevant field in a R&D institute.
   Desirable: Experience in handling and maintaining of scientific instruments.Experience in sedimentary basin analysis.
            15.          Project Associate-II            1Essential: Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences from a recognized University / Institute.Two years of experience in river basin and climate change studies.   Desirable: Experience in hydrogeochemical data processing, and GIS, Geochemist’s Workbench, Aquachem and other data processing tools / software.Experience in data interpretation and report preparation.
              16.            Project Associate-II              1Essential: Master’s degree in Hydrology / Water Resources / Environmental Engineering from a recognized University / Institute.Two years of experience in the field of Hydrology / Water Resources from R&D / academic institutes.   Desirable: Experience in working with Physics-based and data-driven models in the areas of hydrology / water resources.Experience in handling / operating hydrological instruments and conducting field studies.Knowledge of Python / MATLAB / R.
          17.          Project Associate-II          1Essential: Master’s degree in Geology / Environmental Sciences from a recognized University / Institute.Two years of experience in soil / sediment analysis and paleoclimate studies.   Desirable: Experience    in    fieldwork,     geoenvironmental sample collection and analysis.Experience in GIS, data interpretation and report preparation.
18.Project Associate-II1Essential: Master’s degree in Oceanography / Computer Science & Engineering / Ocean Technology / equivalent from a recognized University / Institute.Two years of experience in relevant fields –
   Oceanography / Computer Science.   Desirable: Experience in numerical modelling (MIKE 21 / Delft / ROMS).Experience in deployment of oceanographic instruments, post-processing of oceanographic data, data analysis, beach profile measurements, computation of volume changes and shoreline mapping.Experience in video image processing and MATLAB / Python programming.Experience in data analysis and programming skill in Python / MATLAB.Participation in research cruises.
    19.    Project Associate-II    1Essential: Master’s degree in Geology / Marine Geology / Applied Geology / Geoinformatics from a recognized University / Institute.Two years of experience in marine field work or sedimentological / geochemical research work.
            20.          Project Associate-II            1Essential: Master’s degree in Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics / Geology / Computer Science / equivalent from a recognized University / Institute.Two years of working experience in Remote Sensing and GIS software including open-source GIS platforms.   Desirable: Knowledge in GIS digital conversion and integration, image     processing     and     analysis,     data     base management.
              21.            Project Scientist-I              1Essential: Doctoral degree@ in Physics with specialization in Experimental High Energy Particle Physics from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Working experience in the field of cosmic ray measurements and data processing.Designing of Muon Scintillator Detector and related data processing, modeling, and interpretation.Knowledge of programming languages such as Fortran, Python, MATLAB, Machine Learning, etc., preferably applied in the study of cosmic ray.
22.Project1Essential:
                 Scientist-I Doctoral degree in Marine Science / Oceanography / equivalent OR Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent in Ocean Technology / Computer Science from a recognized University / Institute.   Desirable: Experience in nearshore data collection: deployment of oceanographic instruments, beach and sediment sample collection, post- processing of oceanographic data, beach profile measurements, computation of volume changes, shoreline mapping and data analyses.Experience in numerical modelling (expertise in using Modelling software such as MIKE 21 / Delft / ROMS / WAVEWATCH III and LITPACK).Programming skill in MATLAB and Python.
                23.              Project Scientist-II                1Essential: Doctoral degree in Geology OR Master’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent in Engineering Geoscience or Geotechnical Engineering from a recognized University / Institute. Three years# of experience in Remote Sensing and GIS.   Desirable: Expertise in geotechnical analysis and in landslide investigation using AI and geotechnical investigation.Proficiency in RAAMS software for slope stability analysis of creep movement in landslide prone areas.
      24.    Project Scientist-II      1Essential: Doctoral degree in Physics from a recognized University / Institute.Three years# of working knowledge in spectroscopic techniques and Fluoresce emission analysis with a good publication record.
25.Project Scientist-II1Essential: Doctoral degree in Geology from a recognized University / Institute.Three years# of R&D experience in Quaternary / paleoclimate studies.   Desirable: Demonstrated     excellence     in     research     asevidenced through publications in peer- reviewed journals.
·         Capacity to independently undertake research programs and supervise research work in paleoclimate studies, sediment geochemistry
and radiocarbon dating.

@Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis or in the final year of their PhD program can also apply.

#Candidate without minimum 3 years of experience can also apply, if found otherwise suitable for the project, then the candidate will be selected as Project Scientist-I.
