National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) was conceived and founded in 1988 by the late Mr. J.
R. D. Tata, who sought to create an institution to conduct advanced multidisciplinary research.

About the Programme/Project: The research project is on coastal geomorphology and maritime
archaeology. This project has a distinctive inter-disciplinary orientation, and is being is being funded
by Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
Title of Position: Junior Research Fellow (JRF) or Project Associate (depending on qualification
and experience)
Job description (what is expected): The successful candidate, after an interview, will work under the
guidance of Principal Investigator towards achieving deliverables of the project and will be located
at National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore – 560012. The appointment will be initially for
the period of 3 months, which can be extended for another month based on performance and need of the project.
Qualifications: PG Degrees in disciplines such as: geoarchaeology, geography, archaeology,
maritime/marine archaeology, cartography, architecture, cultural heritage, heritage conservation,
remote sensing and GIS. Experience in research, field survey, GPS survey, GIS, conference
presentation and research writing will be appreciated.

For JRF position the candidate should satisfy any one of the following two criteria:
1) Post Graduate (PG) Degree in Basic Science with NET or equivalent qualification
2) Graduate Degree/Post Graduate Degree in Professional Course with NET /GATE or Equivalent
Qualification.
Those who don’t satisfy any of the above two criteria can also apply, but will be considered for
‘Project Associate’.
