Job Description (Research Associate in GNSS Geodesy)
We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
The Role
This is a fixed-term post until December 2022, based in the School of Engineering. You will join the geodesy team within the Geospatial Engineering group, and carry out research into the analysis and utilisation of GPS/GNSS observations for positioning and geophysical deformation monitoring. Specifically, you will carry out research into the global phenomenon of Ocean Tide Loading, and into surface mass loading in Antarctica.
You must have a PhD in geodesy, geophysics, or a closely related scientific / engineering field, either completed or in the final stages by the time of appointment. You should have a proven or emerging track record of self-motivated progress in academic research, including publication in peer-reviewed journals, and a demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
You must have high-quality written and oral communication skills in the English language, and expertise in scientific computing under the Linux (or other UNIX) operating system. You should be familiar with the use of one or more of the major scientific GPS/GNSS processing software packages for high-precision positioning. Ideally, you will also have skills in geophysical modelling and interpretation of geodetic observations.
This is a full time, fixed-term post available immediately until December 2022.
For further details and informal enquiries please contact Professor Peter Clarke (Tel: +44 191 208 6351, or e-mail: [email protected]).
